Academic Numbered is the base Academic layout with one specific addition: each section heading carries a number, so "Publications" becomes something a reader — or you, in a conversation about your CV — can point to directly as "section 4" rather than describing by name alone. It's a small, practical convenience rather than a visual redesign; the dense small-type layout, the minimal color, the serif typography, and the single-column structure are all identical to the base Academic template. The reason this matters in some academic and research contexts is specific: committee reviews, tenure evaluations, and grant panel discussions sometimes reference a CV section-by-section during a live discussion, and having stable, visible numbers makes that easier to follow than reading "the publications section" and hoping everyone is looking at the right part of the document. It's a convention some institutions and fields use deliberately for exactly that reason, and this template supports it without requiring you to type numbers in manually and then fix them every time you reorder or add a section. If your field or the institution you're applying to doesn't use numbered CV sections as a convention, there's no real downside to using this template anyway — the numbers are unobtrusive and simply sit alongside each heading rather than replacing the heading text.
